I moved mine after a year in the ground and it wasn't too hard.

I bought 2 Karl Foerster grasses last spring and quickly realized that I had planted them in a location that was too shady, so moved them after a month. They did OK, but the new location was too shady as well, so I moved them again early this spring. They are both growing well and much larger than last year, although the one in the sunniest spot is doing better.

'Karl Forester' is very easy to move. I just dug up 5 very large clumps that had been in the ground for 4 years. I split some into 4 or 5 pieces and a couple clumps I split into many smaller pieces for my plant sale. All the transplanted pieces are doing well after only a couple weeks.
The roots are fine not large like miscanthus and don't 'run' but stay in a clump.
