I don't know what the plant is, but I love the busted-fork garden art!

I would guess it is Melica altissima 'Atropurpurea' (or var. atropurpurea).

Nan is right with the ID. I grow several of this plant and love it. It stays in a clump, no runners and I haven't found it to be a problem with seeding out.

Thanks for the ID! I wouldn't have figured that one out. I think I almost pulled it out a few times while madly ripping out quackgrass. Lucky for it that it has broader foliage.

As for the fork, I hadn't thought of it as garden art but I like that idea. Didn't get around to a new handle but still use it for digging once in a while.
