It looks like a hubbard. We have a Red Warty Thing crossed with an Atlantic Giant Pumpkin that looks very close to what you have except ours is 50-70lbs.

Wade...its likely a hubbard or a hubbard cross. Is the blossom end pointed? I have seen red/orange wartedhubbards at Agricultural fairs but don't recall the name. Victory seeds has a golden hubbard...might wanna search their website for a picture. Do you have any other c.maximas growing in your garden? If not its likely self pollinated...I'd be interested in swapping for a couple seeds if so....let me know...thanks.........S

How about a "ghoosebumps" pumpkin thats what i kinda looks like to me.

Sandbagger, yes the blossom end was a hard, pointed nugget. I broke it off. Maybe I shouldnt have, but what can ya do?

Anyway, there are no other c. maximas around so the seeds should be good in that respect, BUT it must be a hybrid since last fall I threw a lot of pumpkins bought from a local farm into the composter. This is likely an F1 and who knows what will come from the seeds.

If you would like to trade, I have no problem with that but will likely not cut this sucker open until after halloween. Can you wait?

PS has anyone eaten one of these hubbard/pumpkin crosses? Seems like it should be edible since its parents were.

I would think it would be edible...its c.maxima and was likely pollinated by c.maxima...most of which are edible. Save some seeds...Im sure they'll be swap posts come winter.....
