Im in a neighboring county to Moultrie..Not sure why you are settling there instead of nearby Tifton or albany.. vbg..but..I can say for sure that the Red Pine Cone Ginger will do VERY well here.
Probably most all of them will do well with good mulch on the south side of a house..and pine straw is plentiful..works great..most gingers grow like weeds in this part of Ga..You do know that cannas, glads, and amaryllis live in the ground yr rd here too..right?
Good luck with your move..Seriously..Moultrie is growing..in the past yr have added a Home Depot and Lowes side by side..hard to believe for a town that small..

I'm not so sure about Moultrie anymore. I was looking at land prices, and they've gone up just in the last month. The Bainbridge area is still much cheaper, and I want to get as much as I can for my money.

I was going to Moultrie because it was farm country. I don't know where I'll land, but I know I'll be happy there.

Thanks for the info. I have missed pine straw! We can't use it down here because of creepy crawlies who love to live in it. Besides which, you can't find it. It's the best mulch ever.

The Georgia Farmers and Consumers Market Bulletin (www.agr.georgia.gov) published their Fall Farmland Edition on Sept. 14.

Land in Colquitt County included 45 acres at $4500/acre and 80 acres at $3400/acre. There was an offer in Grady County for 18 acres for $85,000. The price per acre goes down as the number of acres go up, such as 400 acres in Miller County for $3000 per acre.

Look carefully at tax rates and services as well as land price in different counties. There's a small plot near us that sold and the new owner discovered that getting electricity run to it was going to cost as much as the lot. You will have only dial-up, away from town, and garbage service is dear.

I only have dialup now, and I lived in the middle of nowhere for 6 years, where you either burned your garbage, or toted it 12 miles to the pickup dumpsters. I loved it. I'm not a city girl. I'm just stuck in the city right now. Can't wait to get back to the boonies! I would never buy where I can't get power. In fact, I'm looking for something with a trailer already on it, where I can build a small cottage in a couple of years.

I doubt I'll be buying anything more than 5 acres. I wouldn't know what to do with 45 acres! LOL

There are two corner lots for sale in Iron City, GA for $14,000 and possible owner financing. Noticed that in today's paper. Iron City is about as rural as you can be without being outside a town, yet it's right on the four lane between two larger towns. Or, there's a double lot on Lake Seminole for $59,000.
