I had a fig tree that grew and produced very well (more than we could eat) in morning sun. I eventually cut it down simply because it was in the wrong place in the garden. It was Delicious!

A neighbor had a Brown Turkey variety planted near the south wall of a detached garage. When he planted it, it received sun, except in early morning and late afternoon, but a shade tree nearby, grew large and provided shade until noon. Other trees, to the west, grew taller and provided shade in late afternoon. Even will limited direct sun exposure, the Fig still produced a lot of fruit each year. A minimum of eight hours of sunlight is recommended. During the summer, that is little more than half-day.

i picked up a brown turkey fig at Roswell Rd. Pike's nursery at beginning of this year. planted it on the north side of my house which is the most shaded side, gets a little evening sun indirectly. it has already doubled in size this year, and produced at least 30-40 figs in just the first year. i'm relatively happy.

meanwhile, my friend has a house about two miles east, and he had a fig tree of unknown variety growing in his back yard, it's approximately 25' tall, and it is under an entire canopy of pine and oak trees next to a ravine, and it produces hundreds (if not thousands) of figs every year. it literally gets no more than 1 hour of morning sun, if that, and possibly a little filtered sun.

if you're reading online that they won't produce without fruit, i find that highly questionable. that has not been my experience by any stretch.

i planted a conadria fig tree in my backyard.
and im worried that if i get fruit it will not ripen, because it only gets about 4 hours of sun, from 1:30 to about 5:30pm
do you guys think it will be ok?
