My suggestions? Hmm, probably oaks with small leaves so you can clean up with the mower. You could also try a Carolina Laurel-cherry and train it as a small tree.

Snoogie, I have the same problem with one of my cherry trees. I moved in to our house about 5 years ago and after the first full season I started noticing large parts of the tree dying off. First the leaves turn yellow, then red. Then they fall off altogether and a fungus grows on the bark. I've been trimming the dead sections each year, but this may be it's last. Any suggestions on treatment to attempt to save it would be greatly appreciated.
