I miss snow! Beside my dogs will look cute in their new sweaters against a white background.

Last year was about right for me, a record number of below freezing days in Dec. satisfied the chill requirement for Hostas and the rest of the winter was fairly warm, in fact, it was the warmest winter I've experienced in my 40 years here. My lowest recorded temperature was 23F(-5C) and that equates to Zone 9A/B! Snow would be nice occasionally, to remind us that Mother Nature is in charge and prompt some nostalgia moments from my youthful years in the midwest, where snow covered the ground almost all winter. But around here. my power would enevitably fail and traffic would be chaotic for the duration.

I do remember about 4 consecutive days early on last year where it was in the 20's here at around 10/11pm.

The snow can be a big inconvenience here because 10 out of 10 people think they can drive in it, and drive fast at that.... For whatever reason. They don't take into account the poorly designed and maintained roadways especially in fulton county where you can slide off an icy cliff to your death on 120 heading into duluth where there's no guard rail. They don't plow obviously and don't salt the roads adequately. And then there's some people that act like the world is coming to an end but and stores shut down early and things like that.

Personally I think the amount of snow that Washinton DC gets would be about perfect. It's frustrating because we may have a cold snap and then rain will approach and as it does it will warm up just enough... Or the upper atmosphere will be warm and it can be 30 degrees and raining (causing ice). From my observation over the past several year except for the winter of '04 I was somewhere else, is that the best chance for snow is later in the winter... Jan and onward and if there's moisure coming out of the Gulf of Mexico and scooting up this way.

A lot of things have to go just right and then there's the cleanup from it all afterwards from all those "experienced" drivers.

I want more cold weather this winter too. After saying that I was very excited this year to have a particular ginger bloom for the first time since being planted in 1999. It blooms on last years growth and has never had the chance to flower! I can certainly understand wanting to get that palm established, so maybe I'll wish you a warm winter and the rest of us a cold one! I don't know if this forbodes anything, but I had my second earliest frost and earliest first freeze this fall.
