Excalibur Dehydrator Question - Does the fan always run or not?

I just got an Excalibur Dehydrator. Looks great, but some stuff in it and I hear the fan going. Then it stops. An hour later, I haven't heard it kick back on. Then, I opened the door, I saw the heating element turn on, but no fan.

Is this supposed to happen?

Thanks in advance for the responses!

Mine runs all the time - as soon as you plug it in until yopu unplug it. What model do you have? What temp are you setting it on? Maybe the new models are different.

I've had 3 dehydrators and the fan runs continuously. The better ones have a temperature control, but the fan runs all the time.

Well, the fan is toast. I can't get the thing to even run at any time. I figured it would have to run all the time. I took the unit apart and it seems that the wires are well put together but the fan just bit the dust.

So, long story short, I need for them to send me a replacement part.

The model was the nine tray with a timer. We bought directly from the manufacturer's site for like 230ish.

    Thanks again for the replies.

Wow, this was the first time you used it and it just died after an hour? Hope they send you the fan motor and you can replace it - or else they pay for return shipping for big item like that.

Did something shift and jam the fan blades?

Nothing shifted. The fan just crapped out. Amazon had some reviews of the machine from other people doing the exact same thing. My complaint is that they will make me pay for shipping to get the replacement part.

Well, hopefully they won't make you pay to ship the whole unit back, and then refuse to fix it under warranty b/c you opened the case.

Good luck - I lucked out like that once - capacitor blew in new speaker back in college, they sent me new capacitor instead of requiring shipping the whole unit back.

I received my Excalibur Dehydrator 9 tray with timer just 2 days ago and I decided to use it today. No fan running. I don't know if t's me but I don't believe the codswollop about how each dehydrator is checked 3 times before being exported.

After reading Amazon reviews (I bought mine from a different website), I feel that I have been cheated as I did spend a ridiculous amount of money on this machine and I never even got one try at it.

And it's an eye sore!... whhich I was willing to overlook since it has been raved about by raw foodists experts all over the world!

I have two "elderly" Excaliburs and have never had a problem with either but if you have any opportunity whatsoever to return for refund, I would do that.

My original I inherited from my MIL after her death and the second I picked up ultra-cheap from ebay, mainly for the additional trays.

I just got my Nesco dehydrator and jerky maker and when I first plugged it in the fan came on then quit. So I am not sure if the fan is suppose to run or not. :(

Yes the fan should run continuously on the Nesco. I've had 2 of them over the years. The fan went out on the first one after about 8 years and I bought a new one about 10 years ago. I don't use it as often as I use to when I made a lot of jerky.

Hopefully you bought it at Walmart and can just return it.

Through Amazon if you had it less than 30 days they will guve give instuctions on sending it back through UPS

I bet money they won't let you return it 10 years later.
