What were the pepper doing in a jar? If stored after dried out, they might be used if not to old....But if your talking about pickled in a juice , you are wasting your time...

Seriously doubt it. Most are heated beyond temps of seed survival, as in a home canning process You can try though. Acids like vinegar will kill the seeds too.

Try it. The easiest way is to dry the seeds thoroughly first. Then place them on a paper towel, dampen the towel and slide it into a plastic bag. Put the bag in a warm place (65 to 70 degrees) and check them in about a week or two. If the seeds are viable (sprout), you might plant them. However, if the peppers were grown where other different peppers also grow, the seeds may or may not produce true to the mother strain.

For more information - visit the Vegetable Forums. Lots of good information on seed starting, etc.

Just my 2 c's.

And if from a commercial brand, were probably hybrids, meaning they have a very small chance of turning out like the parent.

Since peppers need warmth to sprout and take up to two weeks, unless you're intrigued as a science experiment (which would be understandable), I'd recommend buying some pepper seeds instead. They're inexpensive and you'll feel confident they'll sprout! Check out some vegetable catalogues and you'll see a wonderful array of choices....
