Oh lucky you!

The flowers are edible and can be used in fruit salads, iced teas and desserts. Leaves are used as a seasoning and for flavouring teas. Seeds are used in biscuits, cakes and muffins. A strong tea is used as a substitute for aniseed in recipes (replace half the liquid called for in the recipe with the tea). The leaves can be added to salads or fruit beverages, or chopped and used to season pork dishes in in savoury rice. Leaves and flowers can be used with fresh or baked fruit, cakes, cookies, teas, sweet potatoes, carrots, sweet-and-sour pork, chicken, fish, rice or mushrooms.

Medicinal Uses: Leaf tea has been used for fevers, colds, coughs, respiratory problems to induce sweating and to strengthen a weak heart.

Usual Dosage: Add 1 teaspoon of dried leaves and flowers or 3 teaspoons of fresh leaves and flowers to 1 cup of boiling water. Strain and sweeten with honey to taste. Take 1-2 cups per day.

I love just picking the blooms from the plant and eating on the spot. Just careful when you reach that no insect is having dinner in the flower. Early morning before the dew leaves the plants have less insects.

Of course part of the thing with Anise Hyssop is not that you plant it for your own use but for the other creatures to use. Amazing to watch all the insects and a occasional hummer checking out the flowers. Without the insects we would have very little to eat so we must feed them to feed ourselves.

i had no idea it attracts humming birds . i am so happy no that i have planted it in my garden with my other hummingbird plants .

It's probably my favorite plant for gold finch, butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
