Is this what you see peopel selling at intersections in Miami?? I see clusteres anf dmall bags of them they are try to sale. Look like mini LImes. Aren;t they also known as "Spanish Limes"?

If they are about the size of a quarter, they are mamacillos, if they are the size of a golf ball they are probably limes. If you have the chance to get mamacillos, try them they are goooood!!!!!!

Quenepa is sold all over Puerto Rico at intersections by street vendors for $1 per bag. My Puerto Rican friends always buy them when they see them. They are a national symbol of pride like the coqui (frog), bacalaito (fried codcakes) and coquito (eggnog with coconut). I never found the taste exceptional, they are small and require effort to eat with their large pit. The quenepa tree grows huge, much too large for most Florida yards. I've asked why rare tropical fruit nurseries don't sell them. Most answered that the tree is just too large for most people. Excalibur Nursery in Lake Worth likely has them, Richard Wilson there has rare fruits not stocked by most nurseries and is a wealth of knowledge. Definitely worth the trip.

The fruit sold in plastic bags by street vendors in Miami is not Spanish lime (a/k/a quenepa). It is Mexican lime (a/k/a Key lime). Limes are frequently used in Latin cooking. Tropical fruits are called by different names depending on country of origin. For example, the mamey known to Cubans is not the same mamey known to Puerto Ricans. Jamaicans have their own names for tropical fruits that are different from the names in Latin countries. Learning the names of tropical fruits is very confusing.

When growing from seeds, there's no guarantee you'll ever harvest a fruit from you tree; unless both female & male trees are grafted together.
Traditional female quenepa trees take up to 10 years to bear fruits. Grafted; 2-4 years.
