pineapple sage

hi

i have a pineapple sage plant that absolutely thrived in our garden last year. i didn't do anything to it (pruning or otherwise) and am wondering if there is any chance it will come back, or should i just pull it up?

can i prune it back? right now it is 2 - 3 feet of tall dead stems.

In zone 6 it probably didn't survive. So pull it and buy a new baby.

Your local growing conditions are more important than zone. Zone is just a average lowest temperature. Once have I had pineapple sage over winter and I am zone 5. The weather was mild but lots of snow. It did take until late June before it started leafing out and died before reblooming. It is always worth leaving just in case. But you can plant one near your old one and then trim the stem to a nub letting the new one's foliage cover the stump.
