Munstead and Hidcote are good, sweetly fragrant varieties for containers. They, like most herbs, need as much sun as you can give them: at least 6 hours of direct sun per day. You might be able to give them more light by using a window box, or by putting the planter outdoors on a deck or balcony. Lavender likes a period of cold-weather dormancy, so overwinter it in an unheated garage or plan on replacing the plants each spring.

Sorry to butt in, but if placed in a garden should it be dug up and moved indoors in the fall?
