I'm trying my hand at growing a variety of herbs in pots this summer. While it may be a failure (as many of my gardening experiments are, LOL), I'd like to at least give my seeds a fighting chance.

All of the seed packets I picked up said they can be started outdoors. So I planted the seeds in regular pots tonight, but when I watered them, the water is just sitting on top of the soil. I have a feeling that I packed the soil too tightly in all of them. (Seems like I can never get the packing thing right!) Is there anything that can be done to fix this once the seeds are in the soil?

I appreciate any help you can offer to save my seeds. :)
