Curry, is the name of several spice mixes used in indian cooking. They can have cumin, coriander, fennel, tumeric, peppers, chilies, and many many more. All the mixed flavors are what make the final curry flavor and color, which can be green, yellow, or red.

There is a plant that has the name (at least the common name) of curry plant. The leaves have a smell (and presumably taste) of curry. They should at least.

As far as culinary uses, I think it might be nice to throw a couple of leaves into a pot of rice before cooking to flavor it. Of course that's only if the leaves have aroma/flavor. Give them a taste and see what's doing. If they never smell or taste like anything that seriously limits their culinary uses...

Helichrysum angustifolium, H. italicum, the Curry Plant, whether dwarf or not is edible, but you really wouldn't bother! You can add it to soups, rice dishes, egg or chicken salads to give a faint, curry-like flavour. When I say faint, I mean 'barely detectable'.

It's the leaves which are used. You toss in a sprig or two, as you would rosemary (but you can be a lot more generous with the curry plant!)

If your plant doesn't have quite a strong aroma of curry, then it isn't likely to be Curry Plant. Of course, you need to crush the leaves to get the aroma. Have you tried that?

I just saw a slew of this plant at the nursery today. There was quite a few plants and they did give off a curry aroma, even without bruising the leaves (but then, I have a very sensitive nose). The curry plants were in the same section with the rest of the herbs and were in proper (alphabetical) order among them.

Dunno anything about its culinary uses, but when I want curry flavor, I do it like ksrogers says above! ;-)

I just bought a dwarf curry plant that has a very strong curry fragrance whether the leaves are crushed or not. I found it among the culinary herbs at the nursery, however, when I asked the salesperson about its culinary use, she said it really doesn't have one...it just smells good in the garden if you like the aroma of curry. I love it!
