Fngus gnats, and fungus maggots. They can infect every single indoor plant, even house plants. If the soil they are in was from a garden, it helped to culture these pests indoors. Two things that can help rid the plants indoors. Yellow sticky traps (4"x6" plastic sheets) that are set horizonally on the edges of the pots, will help reduce the flying bugs. They lay eggs and these grow into maggots that destroy the roots of plants. Bt, a liquid is mixd with water and you heavily water a few times to rid the soil of the hatching eggs and tiny maggots. Both solutions work very well and will help to prevent any future infestations. If you have house plants, do the treatment for every plant. Here, I apply Gnatrol (a Bt product) and use the traps which become loaded very fast. The sticky traps are two sided, so use only one side until its filled, then remove the backing paper off the other side and you have a fresh yellow sticky surface to catch more. Bt, is not a chemical, but an active bacteria that attacks the tiny maggots (grubs).

Sorry, there is no other easy way out, except removing the plant from the pots, removing all the soil, and drowning the roots for several hours in water. It only takes a single bug to surve this and you can end up getting another wave of them quite quickly. The drowning method isn't very good to use on tender plants like parsley.. These methods are 100% safe and organic, and use no chemicals on any kind that can come in contact with the plants.

Put the plant outside. Predator bugs will soon fix the problem. Indoor plants are open slather for bugs and diseases. It's not a natural environment for them.

Here is my reply as to sources for controlling these little bugs..

Suggest that you use the 'all powerful' web search top find the info on these. I buy beneficial nematodes from Gardeners Supply in VT. The nematodes come packed on a small piece of moist sponge and you mix them with water and apply to the soil. The soil should be damp, but not soaking. They do best if you also apply some water after application, so they can enter into the soil. They are microscopic worms that naturally live in soil, but in very small quantities. They attack the grubs (maggots) of the fungus gnat.

The Bt is a biological culture of live organisms that when mixed with water will cause the flies to starve. There are several Bt formulas and one is used for controlling many types of caterpillars.
