There are literally hundreds of Salvia (sage) cultivars. Unfortunately, the information you provided doesn't help much. How did you come to realize that it was a Salvia? Did it have an aroma? Anything else to go on?

The culinary sages are from the genus Salvia and most of those are cultivars of Salvia officinalis. Check out pictures of the green leafed culinary varieties if you think it is the herb.

Other plants that have "Sage" in their name include:

Russian Sage - Perovskia atriplicifolia
Jeruselum Sage -Phlomis sp
as well as some members of the genus Artemisia.

Good advice from Francescod. I'll just add that very few of the Salvias are edible, so it's best to have your plant professionally identified before you start using it.

The only reason was I was looking for another plant online and for some reason sage came up and the leaves were familiar and that's when I remembered my plant from long ago looked similar. I bought it from some uptown flower shop in K.Port(Maine) and never really wanted it for food, just thought it looked more unusual than most plants so I bought it.

I never had it or even wanted it to use for eating and I still don't want to eat it.

All the 'herbs' I'm going to grow aren't for cooking anyway they are really just for pure beauty for me and the butterflies! I don't allow my kids to eat anything from my garden unless I planted it knowing for a fact it's for food.

What a lucky shot in the dark!
There are a few species of Phlomis or Jeruselum sage available in the trade. I have grown Phlomis tuberosa and it gets pretty large. I'm not sure it would be suited for growing in a pot past the first year. Some of the other species have a fuzzy, gray leaf while T. tuberosa has only very fine hairs that aren't immediately noticeable and the leaves are green.
