Well it's not wishful thinking since I do keep my herb window box indoors in the winter and harvest fresh off the plants as I prepare dishes. A few tips though:

1. I don't freeze or dry my basil since the winter sunshine isn't strong enough in my room to make the leaves "bitter". And so, I just cut and use from the plants as needed.
2. Be mindful of any mint; they do bring on spider mites. Watch it closely and often.
3. Water when the window box or pot is more on the "dry" side of things since they don't use as much moisture as in the active growing season.
These are what I can think of right now; others may have some more advice.

Certainly possible, give mint all the sun you can and lots of water.

Also consider day trips to play outdoors when the temps will stay warm enough, just remember, if they've been in lower light conditions for weeks or months, full outdoor sunlight will now burn their tender skins.
