over-wintering potted herbs

I have a few less-than-hardy perennial herbs that I'll need to bring indoors due to our harsh winters. When exactly should I bring them inside, I wonder, and will they need any special care or will they go dormant if I keep them relatively cool...(like geraniums?)

Different herbs will have different tolerances and needs. What herbs exactly are we talking about?

Wooly thyme, sweet marjoram, Greek oregano, prostrate rosemary, lavender...lemme check out that thread...

Aha! Fantastic thread! Answered my question as to which plants to bring in...now if I can just keep them alive thru the winter in the dry house...lol Thanks for the help!
