Does catnip spread by root?

Seems according to some online sites that some people are using catnip and catmint interchangeably however they are 2 different plants all together. So what I'm wanting to know Is does catnip "Nepeta cataria" spread by underground roots or just by seed? Reason I'm asking Is because bees are a very rare thing where i live and there Is a strong chance flowers won't get pollinated. So can the catnip Nepeta cataria spread by underground root?

It has a taproot, but also develops rhizomes, so yes, it will spread by it's root system. However, there are so many pollinators out there other than bees, that you will undoubtedly end up with plenty of seed, too.
