Pickling beans... without dill??

This is my first year canning produce. My sister and I have already put aside some BWB processed jam, but the wax and green beans are just about ready to be picked. I have a brand-new Mirro 22 quart pressure canner waiting for the bean harvest also. The majority will be pressure canned per the Ball Blue book, however I would like to try to pickle some of my green beans. I've had dilly beans, the sharp vinegar tang was delicious, but dill was OVERWHELMING! All of the pickle bean directions/recipes include dill... I've only considered approved recipes from sources I trust. To the best of my knowledge dill is only for flavor. Will it affect the safety or quality of the beans if I omit dill, or use a TINY bit of fresh dill?

May I use 5% cider vinegar if the recipe simply lists 5% vinegar? Thanks.
