You may also create what I call an open salad. Cut pieces of vegetables, meat, or cheese in narrow strips. Place on a plate along with lettuce leafs and the large leafed basil. Invite your guests and family to put various combinations on the basil leaves, roll them up and eat as finger food. If you wish you can have various dressings or toppings either in lettuce leaf cups or small bowls. Odd as it sounds I like peach jam or finely cut and drained tomatoes mixed with small dices of cheese to top/dip the sandwiches.

I wonder if the basil leaves will be tough enough to cook like the grape leaves. Do grape leaves add any flavor? I just worry about the basil overpowering everything else.

I like the idea of making them in a crock pot. I'm thinking I'd need to cook all the filling first, then stuff and just heat it all up in the crock pot.

I'm not sure about the taste or if the basil is tough enough to stuff but you could always try it. Just make a small amount so if it isn't to your liking, not much is lost. Then again, it might be great... :)

Here's what I would make with large basil leaves: Caprese Salad Recipes. Make it in the height of tomato season with home grown tomatoes straight from the garden. Mmmm-mmm-good!
