If it smells yeasty or sort of like a bad wine then it is bad. Doens't sound good to me.

Off odors develop when there is spoilage in sauerkraut. Spoilage in sauerkraut is indicated by undesirable color, off odors, and soft texture. Do not use sauerkraut that shows any of these signs.

I'd pitch it. If it smells bad after only 7-10 days of fermenting them it is only going to get worse, much worse, not better.

What air temperature range were you working with? If it has gone bad so soon I would guess it was kept far too warm such as above 75 degrees.
