Pickle Question

I'm making a batch of Bread and Butter pickles from the Ball Blue Book. My worry is that it only calls for 3 cups of vinegar. I'm guessing the cukes will release a lot of their water as I get everything hot but is this enough liquid? Do I make a mix to top the jars off to get the required headspace? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Nevermind...took a risk and answered my own question....the recipe came with the PERFECT amount. They are cooling now and have all popped!! Can't wait for a few weeks to get them open! Thanks as always for all the great help from the contributors...I'm sure I would have gotten great answers if you weren't all in the garden!

Bread & butters are made with some cider vinegar as well as white. Also sugar is added along with whole mustard and celery seeds. I add some to each jar too. I like to use a crinkle cutter for the cuke slices and also add a bit of thinly sliced onion, and also a bit of sweet dried red pepper bits for color.
