I actually prefer the older freezer containers with the purple screw on lids. I have issues getting the caps on the newer ones (with green lids that snap on) to seal properly. It seems like the cap is always lopsided and the containers don't stack together like the older style.

Never use them myself but would it be possible to super glue the crack? Or perhaps one of the silicone-based adhesives might work better, be more flexible.

I've considered those glues, but I'd kind of like to find something that's food safe since soup is the main thing that goes in them in the winter. I'm not paranoid, and I'd do it without food nearby until it were dry. Then it would probably be OK enough for me. Too bad they didn't just come out with replacement lids that were tested better. Maybe with a rubber center and plastic threaded ring. Hybrid lids. Oh well...
