hot pickle mix

Anyone have access to the Ball Complete book of Canning (or is it preserving??) ??

I am looking for the recipe for the Hot Pickle Mix they have. It has califlower, onions, peppers, cucumbers, etc...) I have a copy at home, but forgot to write down the ingredients when I left for work today. (its the etc. part I have forgotten!) My husband has been requesting this and I planned to stop off at the market on the way home to buy the stuff.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

    Carol,
Could you read me my grocery list now??? It's at home! (grin)
    What a great place!
Bluejean, I do this all the time! My kids get phone calls asking them to read me the list so I can stop on the way home!

Yeah, I've had this happen to me too.

Ken, I assumed BlueJean was referring to the new Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving which has just been published. It's not the same as the Ball Blue Book. The Ball Blue Book does have a Hot Pickle Mix recipe (aka "Grocery List", LOL) but it's slightly different.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that one. I think it has all the same recipes from several older editions of the BBB, as well as updated ones. Hard cover edition I think.

It has recipes from Bernardin and from Ball. It has both a hard cover and a paperback edition. I bought the paperback because if it is anything like the blue book they will update it every couple of years.

I bought the paperback edition too. My canning books lead a hard life and I like to be able to replace or update.

One of my recipe books is so beat up, I had to cut it off its binding, punch 3 ring holes into it and put it in a big notebook.

I'm glad you ladies brought up this book. I was deciding whether to buy or not...and you have helped me make up my mind to buy it. Thank you

Thanks everyone for your help! Sorry I didn't get a chance to post a thank you on Friday, I was so busy at work- I just had a few minutes to check my email and print out the list.

and yes, It was the recipe from the new Ball book! I just love the format and all the fun recipes. We made the Chocolate Raspberry Sundae Sauce last week... served it last night at the in-laws with vanilla bean ice cream- YUM! Have also made the peach fondue... that was quite delightful as well!

Suggestion for longevity of paperback books that get used often:
Take them to your local print shop. They should be able to cut off the binding and laminate the front and back covers. Then request them to spiral bind them. This works out great because then you can open them and have them lie flat! I did this with reference books I used daily in college. Sure made studying easier (I was a sign language interpreter major- it is hard to hold a book open with one hand while trying to sign a word or concept!)

    Thanks again and Happy Harvesting!

What a great idea about the binding, bluejean
