I have quite a few I got from my Mom's house when she quit canning. I inspected them to make sure they didn't have any chips in the ridge or cracks. I use them regularly and haven't had any problems.

Provided lids and rings fit them and they are heavy, they should be fine. As mentioned check for cracks and any chips in the sealing area

I have a few too! I was wondering how old there were! I even tried to do a search! No luck though! Mine say Magic then a circle shape then says mason jar under that!
I also have one that says longlife mason!

Many years ago, lids were white color and had the words 'magic button' printed in red where the lid has the dimple. Check on eBay as there may be a few very old collector type jars, especially the really old blue and green ones.

ahbee01, I have a lot of the Longlife mason jars. I just happened to see "canning jars" on ebay and lo and behold, the seller was within 30 miles of me! She had 8 dozen quarts and I bought them all in a lot. Then my parents told me to come and get all of their jars and they had about 4 dozen Longlife and Magic jars. They also had unopened cases of Kerr pint jars and some really uniquely marked jars that went straight to the display.

Needless to say, I am set for life with canning jars. However, I have purchased some of the newer shaped pint and half pint jars. I can't resist.

Now, if I could just find some more of the decorative lids and seals. I wish I could find the Peaches, Strawberries, Grapes, Disney characters and such. I carefully opened those lids and kept them so I could reuse them. I use a brand new plain lid and after the jars have set and been washed, I lay the decorative lid over the sealed lid with the matching ring.

eBay sells these lid types at times. Recently, there was a seller that offered a thouand fruit printed lids. Bernardin also offered Disney characters, and Ball has Gingham. Ball jelly jars, of the quilted cystal type have color fruit designs on the lids. Another option is to use 2 inch round self adhesive labels for sticking on the lids. I run sheets of them through my color printer and use Print Shop.

Ken, I've seen the lids with fruit designs by Bernardin and have several boxes. I've found the gingham and salsa on a regular basis and usually spend a fortune thinking they'll discontinue them.

I haven't found the Disney Characters; I bought several last year but down to my last set. I like to use those for the grandkids and a couple of adults who buy season passes to Disney.

Nor have I found the peach, strawberry or grape like I described. One year I found some with a hat and shovel imprinted on a white lid with a plain white ring.

I do check ebay off and on; there weren't any the last time I checked. I've also found the sellers want far more than I'm willing to pay and I've willingly paid the prices at Golda's Kitchen. I found some at Amazon but the shipping charges were twice the cost of the product! I don't want them THAT bad! LOL

I don't care for the printed stickers; just my idiosyncracy. What I will do, is print out the jar content and for pie fillings, include baking instructions on a business card decorated according to the jar content. Using a single hole puncher, punch a hole into the corner and tie it around the ring with some ribbon or raffia. That seems to dress up the plain jars I want to give away.

The Disney ones were on an eBay offering a few months ago. I just looked, and they are not there, and even the fruit printed lids were sold out. I have some custom made 2 inch white circle stickers that are spaced apart. I use Print Shop and have been able to print far beyond the edges of the 2 inch circles (thay call that full bleed). The paper stock is heavy weight and glossy, but works for both laser and inkjet. I even add ingredient info to the stickers. I had to buy 1000 sheets as mine were custom cut by a company in NH. I have about 400 sheets left. I also use color graphics, and some are even photos of my canned stuff printd on te circles. Its faster for me to print up a sheet of 12 labels. I usually don't give my canned stuff away, so any extra work in tying pretty ribbons on them is useless effort. My dad had some gummed labels made that stated "Rogers Pickle Works, Made by our own dirty hands". It was meant for humor and said nothing about the contents, but thats only because they made just picililli and some marmalade in small jars. That you could easil tell what was what. I write in the year of canning on the stickers. Once the lid is tossed, there is no need to scrub any sticky goo off the jars.

Hi I just bought one at the local thrift store for a.25¢... No lid. I picked up another that has no writing except on the bottom is a unique jar with expanded sides that bubble out in the middle of the four corners with a W then arrow then upside down or M. The bottom has A 51 21 6 .. It's a pretty little jar I'll use for dry goods.. Maybe it was sold with jam in it from the store who knows..??

The "Magic Mason" jar is a canning jar, Mason was a company that made canning jars. I still have and use some, but don't have any of the "Magic Button" lids, although I used them in the 70s.

The other one, though, I don't know about. The w and arrow are probably a company logo, numbers on the bottom are usually mold numbers or maybe the year it was manufactured.
