I think you are right Bobbi but the tv is on another wall - built in- so I can't move it. I love the stone in these pics, thank you!

The TV above the fireplace is an excellent idea, & it would make for a wonderful feature wall. However, if you don't like the idea of putting your TV there, a beautiful large mirror would be great & ideal for bouncing around the natural light that comes in through the window. I would suggest keeping the mantle, but still continue the tile or stone all the way up to the ceiling. Also, placing a large plant to the right of the fireplace would be a good way to conceal the fact that the fireplace is off-center. The vase is a good try, but a little too small to do the trick.

I fail to understand why you call it Boring ! it's kinda nice , decorate the Hearth to begin with .

I'm stumped by these posts (there are two up at the moment) calling beautiful minimalist designs boring. I wouldn't touch a thing. The artwork looks much nicer than a television would, and I really love the soft palette and understatement of the whole wall. The tile doesn't look horrible to me in the least, though pictures never capture details so maybe there is something I'm not seeing. But really, I think this is a lovely, subtle fireplace wall that doesn't need additions to make it work.

We make a line of wall tiles that look like metal. If you want to tile the hearth and surround and have it look like it's made from steel with rivets and bolts, check them out on my profile here. We also have a "Flat" tile that doesn't have the rivet heads. You could tile right up to the bottom of the existing mantle and have an awesome piece of wall sculpture above it (unless you have a UV coating on your window, a painting might fade!) I think the simplicity of your fireplace is beautiful if that is what you're going for, but if you want it to make a statement you have many options. You said this area gets a lot of sunlight, so why not something that captures that? We carry many beautiful glass tiles, but what I think might work for you is something from our Shimmerfly line. They are iridescent tiles, so they capture light amazingly. they come in single colors or you can blend them for an even bolder look.

And attached is an image of a fireplace we did with these tiles (obviously not the same shape as yours, but you could do just the back wall, or include the mantle and corner if you wish).

I would remove the mantel.
Make that a focal wall by adding some fabulous tile or stone - entire wall.
Since fireplace is off-center, add a very tall thin sculptural piece
Or a tall vase with some very tall branch... Or?

I've done this on many spec homes over the years, and it is a cheap design trick to use GWB to create strong visual elements without adding costs. It merely needs to be finished. In other words the mantle should be a nicer material, and the fireplace surround should encompass the entire wall. Choose what ever tile you like, just fill the whole space under the mantle.

I too like this area! But you are right about he marble - it makes the wall paint look off - thought Agrestal Designs had some interesting tile ideas and I too would tile up to mantel - don't know your existing furniture however, would not center a large painting over mantle - part of what makes it so interesting is the off center fireplace - find your tile choice - finish it and then ask these designers for ideas if still need help!

I like the minimal lines, but there's something weird going on where the upper wall comes a little bit toward you and the fireplace recesses a little.

Is that a wood burning fireplace with gas logs installed? There are things you could do to spruce up the fireplace itself, but you'll be somewhat limited by the technology you're using.

I would try to ground the fireplace with a substantial material - cut stone or Roman brick - leave the mantel shelf light to keep it from looking any heavier than it is, and pick out the upper wall with a serious color, since there's plenty of light in that corner:

Add a tile frame around the fire[place . Paint the mantle white and paint the top in a tan color. Add a small plant in the right corner in a pretty ceramic pot. A snake plant grows up right and doesn't need much light.
