They love to chase each other! Tonight I saw one of the males chasing off the females and juveniles they seem to get more nervous when he's around. Sarah

When I get two hummers in the yard at one time, they forget all about eating -- they just chase each other around the neighborhood.

It is so much fun to watch them chase each other.

This morning the little lady that's been hanging around was chasing off a chickadee! The feeder the chickadees like is very near the Lady in Red Salvia, Turk's Cap, etc, and I guess she decided that chickadee was crowding her. The chick's a tiny bird himself, but the little hummer looked like an insect buzzing around him to chase him off :-) Where's my video camera when I need it??

I have lots of small feeders on the 'shady' side of my house as well as other larger feeders that have multiple feeding ports. There is plenty of nectar to go around...but even so...they sure do like to stake a claim on the feeders!!!

Every now and then they do share the feeders that have numerous feeding ports...but not the individual insulin bottle feeders I made. I have four trellises with several of those small feeders hanging from each. A different hummie stakes out a different trellis...and if one of them starts moves from his perch and starts to feed they all go into a frenzy and zip back and forth swapping places on the trellises. It's any wonder they can find the time to feed!!!

Love watching them - but this 100+ weather is rough!!! I wish it would cool off or rain!

ps...Here's a rare photo of a 'truce' I took earlier this year. There are three hummies feeding and one coming in for a landing. I call it rare - because they do not like to share in hot south Texas heat. I have noticed they seem to be better behaved when the feeders are kept in the shade.

I'd love to see more than one here! Great pic and looks like you have a happy hoya there too! Since hoya flowers drip alot of sweet nectar all over everything, I wonder if a hummer would make an attempt at those flowers?
