You can get it at the tractor place on Okeechobee road in Ft Pierce. It is just east of the I-95 and east of the walmart.

HD in St Lucie West has fencing with a grid a bit smaller then cattle fencing. It has a grid 2x4 inches. I've found that it works quite well for flowing vines as well as vining crops. It comes in a roll of 50 feet, maybe even 25.

Yep, I use that for my tomato cages, but you can not get your hand in very easy nor a tomato out easy. I have to cut one of the 4 in long sections in half and fold it up and down to create a 4X4 inch section when I need to get in and out at a location.

The cattle grate is sooooh much nicer to use for a trellis type support.

Hi Bernie, yes the cattle fencing is probably better since it's bigger, but if it can't be found the other type works pretty well. ;o)

I know there is a feed store in Palm City but don't know if they carry what you are looking for. I'll see if I can find a # for them.

If you look in the phone book under feed dealers you will find 3. There is 1 in Ft. Pierce and 2 in Palm City. If they don't have what your looking for they would know where to find it.

Hmmm, maybe an actual fencing company would sell a roll. :o)

The feed store near my house, order for me when I ask them, they don't have the cattle panel in stock.

The initial cost might be expensive, but like somebody said they last a lifetime and they are sturdier enough to hold heavy crops.

Bernie made a good point about the grid and being easy to harvest.

Cattle grate does not come in rolls,it comes in 4X16 panels and is considerably thicker than hogwire ,concrete wire, etc.

I have an 8 foot trailer and double it over once to haul it. I might be persuaded to haul a few pieces into Port St Lucie if several of you need them and have no way to haul it.

Silvia, I have the 2 x 4 kind already, it has 4 x 4 at the top and yes, the wire is too small at the bottom. I think it was called rabbit wire at home depot.
Thank you all for the info. I will keep looking as I will need some for the second 4' x 8' square foot garden I am going to put in. This wire will be permanent for all the climbing stuff.

The above pic is a close up of cattle grate in a 4X8 raised bed. Look close near the center and you will see what the ol'timers called 1/2 runners. These were raised from seeds from wive's mother's freezer, probably 10 years old. Am letting these few mature to grow next crop.

Bernie, very nice! Your raised bed looks deeper than mine. Should I go higher with the boards, do you think? I didn't know seeds would stay good that long... very neat.

Sharon, not sure how deep is good enough, that is 4 landscape timbers on flat edge. Did not fill it completely, figuring on adding more compost next time around.

Silvia, you can eat them both ways. When I go to NC Christmas, will ask Jo's mom. She's 97, but pretty sharp. Lives by herself , cook's , and drives. We got her to stop gardening about 10 years ago when she fell in the garden and had a hard time getting up.

You overestimate what Sharon might learn from me, Tom and my wife are teaching me, just started last winter.

Bernie, do you fly? My husband has a pilot's license. He loves to fly. He bought me a flying lesson so I could experience piloting. It was a lot of fun.

Back to cattle fencing! This morning I cleaned the summer YLB from the cattle fencing and it is easier to clean vines that have wrapped around and around while growing. There is a larger grid and the stiffer material makes it easy.

OK Sharon, the cattle grate is right up I-95 from you. Get off at Okeechobee and go east about 1 mile till you see the Walmart and then just east of walmart is the tractor place. Plenty of it in stock. Enough for both your 8 foot beds for about $20. You will need some bolt cutters to cut it. They might do that for you there. Have not ask since I have bolt cutters. Let's start a new thread, how much longer can we go on cattle grate? LOL
