I have been waiting to see if someone would comment who has actually experienced wintering hummers. I would suggest at least 1:3 sugar to water and I have heard of people using some kind of light or heat lamp with a clamp to secure it. Hopefully your winters dont get as cold as ours do here in the mid-west.

I have been stocking up on winter blooming (in CA) hummer plants, because I don't believe in feeders. I'll be able to comment in spring. ;) RIght now I have lots of hummers! Seems my original Anna's couple has given up fighting off the others.

Thanks to both of you for responding. I did visit this forum a few times over the last several years and it seems, to my feeble recollection (lol) that there was a lot of activity on this forum then, more so than there is now. Is my memory faulty?

Actually there is a bit of info on your FAQs such as the use of the heat lamp or replacing the feeders frequently when temps are freezing cold. We do get a few days below freezing, especially overnight, but they don't usually stay below freezing consistently. Our winters are usually, overall, on the mild side.
