Hollyhocks done, now what

Our hollyhocks are pretty much done blooming. Only a sporadic bloom here and there. Is it too soon to cut them down? They have new growth at the base.

We are in a very dry pocket, only 3" rain in June, 1/2" in July; have a sand point well and can't keep up with watering, something has to be sacrificed.

If you want them to re-seed, leave them alone, if you don't want that, then cut them back. It's really hard to kill hollyhocks. Warning, if you let them re-seed you'll be finding them coming up for the next 5 or so year. ;) I know from experience, as I'm still trying to dig out new volunteers from a now mixed perennial bed. :)
