Secret Rites

Secret Rites opened this morning, and I was shocked by the vibrant colors. In the past, when I've seen photos of irises in this color class, they've always looked sort of washed out to me. It just didn't seem like an appealing color combination. But how wrong that is with this one. What the camera just could not capture accurately was a luminous quality around the big long beards--the violet shading is deeper in real life, as well, giving this a high visual impact. It's a nice large flower, too.

That cross produced a whole lot of beauties. I expected Keith to introduce more of them. I never guess right.

Great photo. Sigh. I guess I have to add that one to the list. I have seen others in this line that were not as dramatic, more greyed. But this is impressive.

Sure, today it is absolutely unfaded. The color intensity is just the same as that picture. However, I should point out that this plant is not in full sun, but partial sun (afternoon sun but no morning sun), so I am sure that this has helped!

I have Mysterious Ways, which is a sibling. It is very pretty, but I really love the color intensity on this one. Very nice pictures!
