Replacing evaporated pond water

Hello,

I am new to Koi. Have a house that has a built in pond in it, approx 2500 gal. No fish yet. However, about once a week, I notice that the ponds water level lowers about 2". I fill it with the hose. But - I know once I have fish in it - straight tap water is not good. My question is, what can I do once I have fish in it when it needs to be filled? It takes alot of water to top it off so using a bucket or even a trash can would take forever. Do I need to just test the water every time? Will that affect the health of the fish? Any help is appreciated.
