We just purchased my in-laws’ home and are in process of some major remodeling. I am having difficulty with what to do with the entry. The wood panels on the stairs off the entry are stained a color green that does not work with the slate floor, which is a blue/grey/green and a kind of brown/purple. Our painter thinks it too difficult to strip to a natural color as the green stain cannot be totally removed. One of the entry walls is limestone and the wood trim is a pecan color. We are replacing the wood stair rail with a rod iron one and the grass cloth is faded so it has to go, too. I love lots of light and don’t want the entry to be too dark. (A galley kitchen opens off the entry and we are putting in light maple cabinets, Cambrian black counters and a slate blue ceramic tile that is close to the color of the entry grout. There is a large living room/dining room off the entry also. It has natural cedar walls, a limestone fireplace and lots of windows. We are removing the green carpet and putting in a dark wood floor.)
Any suggestions for a new stain color and what to paint the rest of the entry’s walls?
