You are going to have the most wonderful spring ever next year, watching for these to bloom!

Plant them in tilled soil, well drained and full sun.

If they have longish roots, till deep (lift with a spade and work until the soil is fine;) put the roots down first, and fill in around them, holding the rhiz about ground level in the hole. Continue until you have back-filled all the dirt into the hole around the root, and the iris rhiz is sitting on top with just a bit of its back exposed to the sun.

Water them in, and every few days thereafter until you see new growth starting. Don't drown them, they don't like to sit in water, ever.

Don't feed them anything unless its a bit of super phosphate or a very low-nitrogen fertilizer...they do not like nitrogen. Keep them weed free.

Don't throw grass and weed seeds into their faces when you mow - always mow with your grass clippings shooting the other direction.

Now I am really looking forward to them! It has not been a good garden year so far, though. The weather is hot, then cold and rainy all the same week. I only hope they get through this.
