Reblooming Iris Question??

Have some reblooming Iris that were planted last fall. They have just finished blooming for the first time. When can I expect them to bloom for the second time and is there anything I need to do to help them do this??

If you provide extra fertilizer now and water them every couple of weeks if you don't get rain, they *might* rebloom for you. Rebloom is never guaranteed in any iris in any climate under any conditions. There are rebloomers that are more reliable than others, but again, there is no such thing as guaranteed rebloom ANYWHERE ANYTIME.

The fact that your irises haven't even had a full year to settle in yet makes rebloom pretty unlikely this year, but it is a possibility. You're more likely to get rebloom next year IF you're going to get rebloom at all.

Thanks for the information. I got the Iris from Brecks's in a collection called Twice As Nice. They said they were reblooming, just took them at their word. I like them even if they don't rebloom, they were really beautiful when in flower.

Most rebloomers only rebloom in the warmest parts of the country with the longest growing seasons, but there are quite a few that have been reported to rebloom in colder zones. If you post the names of the cultivars included in your collection, I can look them up in the Reblooming Checklist and tell you in which areas they've been reported to rebloom.

LaurieF, Thanks for any information you can give me. The names of the Iris are Mother Earth, Ocean Pacific, Total Recall, Beverly Sills, Bountiful Harvest, Invitation and they included a free one that I can't recall. Again Thanks.

ME has been reported to rebloom in MO, zone 5.
OP has NOT been reported to rebloom in MO, though it has been reported in zone 5
TR has NOT been reported to rebloom in MO, though it has been reported in zone 5
BS has NOT been reported to rebloom in MO, though it has been reported in zone 5
BH has been reported to rebloom in MO, zone 5.
I has been reported to rebloom in MO, zone 5.

Rebloom reports do not specify exact locations or reliability of rebloom. All it means if that someone, somewhere within the region has had the cultivar rebloom at least once in their garden.

Thanks for the info, I guess there is some hope so I will just wait and see. If not this year maybe next.

I am assuming that the same rhizome is reblooming several times on the rebloomers. I have never looked at them to see what is going on. Last year we had rain all summer and I had about 15 rebloomers to rebloom. Some I didn't even know were rebloomers. A couple didn't actually make the bloom due to cold weather. I live in Wichita Falls, Tx. Feedback, Harvest of Memories and Lady Essex never fail to rebloom for me. I bought several new ones last year and several bloomed after they were planted. I am looking forward to the rebloom this year. Feedback and Lady Essex are blooming now.

No, rebloomers are like all other irises; each rz blooms only once. Rebloom stalks arise from previously unbloomed rhizomes.

then why are the called rebloomers? I am confused :-/

I think they are called rebloomers because they will bloom in a season other than the spring season after blooming in the spring season also. The rebloomers I have just put on a lot of increase that does not have to go through a chilling stage before they will bloom. I have two bloom stalks on Anxious right now that will probably bloom on the summer solstice. Immortality and Brother Carl both are starting a single bloom stalk. So at least on these three length of day or sun angle has nothing to do with them reblooming. I think that at least in some climates that Immortality is considered an all season bloomer. I have never seen a clear answer as to what triggers rebloom but I assume it may be different for various iris. Lee Mincy
