They also do well in just soil correct? I keep them very moist.

I have them in the ground, they do fine over a wide range of conditions (although less than full sun really cuts down on the blooming). They will do best in wet places - mine are planted in a natural bowl which forms the low spot in that part of the garden, and they get all of the water from one of the downspouts. They get better and better each year.

If you have their paper catalog you can find a full page of growing instructions in it. They say that in northern climates they cannot be overwintered submerged. Apparently the ice can actually suffocate the plant.

I only started my collection last year and have a stalk on 'Edged Delight' about to open. I'll be orderig more this year and I will be placing them in a more damp area with more mulch because these seem to be suffering. My sister and I even plan to visit their gardens for a pot luck.

They're very nice people(Bob Bauer and John Coble), my sister and I met them just this weekend while at the Region 6 Spring meeting in Lansing. John said they'll have 10,000 japanese iris in bloom during the get together. I'll definitely be taking pictures.

I don't know when I'll be able to share them because I've only just started editing the photos from this weekend, but I'm sure I'll have them up on my photobucket account soon enough.

Thanks everyone for all the info....I will keep them semi wet in the summer, and bury them in the garden for the winter. I guess they don't like to be wet wet in the winter in the north. I'll let you know how they do next year- Maureen
