How hot is it? My African Kabrica beans, which I know I'm not spelling right, were doing pretty well in the heat, until we topped 100. Then they pretty much quit, like all my other green beans. Now the only beans growing are the Limas, yard longs and southern peas.
It's really hard in AZ to find the right time to grow beans since the spring soil and nighttime temps can be too cold but we get too hot pretty fast. I'm going to try a fall batch. I've yet to be successful with plain old snap beans of any type.

Well, my backyard is small and fenced in with lots of concrete. My guess is that temps (which cang get to 120 on the pavement) are just getting too high even further away.

Have you tried mulching around them? Not right up to the stem, allow an inch or two. Maybe it will shade the soil so they can get their feet under them.

THey are partially mulched (I laid down some old boards, but it's not quite the coverage I probably need. I'll try that next.

I have a spot like that which is like a reflector over. To grow anything there requires constant watering. Even with that, it's not a good place for plants.

Unfortunately it's all I have. I'll make due somehow! I can only imagine that one day I might have a real yard and all the hard work will pay off.
