flower buds broken off

hi all

im a new member my name is Andy and live on the south coast England

i planted a lily in my pond maybe 2 years ago with no luck this year plenty of leaves and we had 2 flower buds coming up when they did appear to are horror it looked like they had been snapped off by someone or something.

this has been happening every time a new bud appears am i going mad or does someone or something out there got it in for me

Hi Andy - this forum deals with true lilies ie members of the genus Lilium. It sounds as if you are talking about a water lily, probably a Nymphaea, rather than a true lily. I have no idea what would snap off water lily buds. There is a waterlily beetle but it wouldn't break off an entire flower bud. Do you have fish? Could it be them? Is it in the front garden? Could it be people? Do you get herons? Could they break the buds while looking for fish? Sorry not to be much help but I think your guess is as good as anyone's on this.
