I believe there are other types than listed though.

The planting, and care of the iris is often dependant upon its type.

The American Iris Society website has info that will help you, as well as a wealth of links to other sites with great info - and iris suppliers, too. There is also a list of local iris societies (listed under AIS Regions) - there is probably one that meets near you. That is the best way to learn about growing irises in your area. (Local cultural practices, which cultivars/types do best there, etc.) Iris folks are the greatest, and dues for local clubs are usually just a few bucks a year. That's how I got started, and it really helped me a lot. And I had a LOT of fun!
