IDs always make me cringe, because too many people take a suggestion and run with it. I've grown plants side by side and dissected blooms comparing each component, finding no differences, and still couldn't bring myself to share the NOID under the suspected name.

Having said all of that, have you considered 'Schortman's Garnet Ruffles'?

Eroctuse2- I agree about the id thing but i'm still curious to look at the pics anyway and see what they are named strictly for the fun of it with plants like iris, I'm not a collector (yet, yikes!) so names don't matter really but.... I looked at your pic of schortman's garnet ruffles on dave's and it looks very close especially the fuzzy purple beards and the tips of the iris. some pictures online of this variety look lighter and more purple but your pic and a few others look pretty much right on....
so does yours smell like rootbeer?

Hi Danielle,

I'm sorry but I couldn't tell you about the fragrance. I took the photograph at a show, 4 hours (each way) from home, on a one day trip with friends and our entries. There were literally hundreds of entries and I didn't take the time to smell it. We only took 3 entries between us and all managed to get blue ribbons. My friend even made runner up for best in show with one of her 2 stalks.

The photo just came to mind, and it seemed to be a possible lead. The violet beard that turns yellow in the throat, the white spray around the beards, the way the fall edges curl upon themselves, the older form, they all seemed to show a resemblance.

I wish I could be more helpful. I also hope that you continue to explore the huge diversity in the iris world. You won't regret it.
