One of the main activities of our MGs is our Grass Roots program. The volunteers go to clients' homes and do soil samples and measurements and evaluate their lawns. The homeowner gets back an individualized recommendation for the proper way to care for their lawn, including fertilizer and lime needed and the best IPM ways to deal with lawn weeds and insects. Since we are in the watershed for the Chesapeake Bay, this is all intended to protect the bay and it's tributaries from runoff of excess lawn chemicals. It helps the public achieve attractive landscapes and helps protect the environment at the same time.
