It appears you are growing this little maple indoors.........that's 95% of the problem!

Temperate climate plants like maples are not houseplants - they cannot thrive indoors for any extended length of time. Indoor temperatures are too uniform and warm, the humidity too low and the light inadequate for proper growth. Outdoor plants grown in this manner tend to be overly stressed and prone to insect and disease issues. And they are unable to properly cycle through their normal seasonal growth patterns, which tends to drastically shorten their lives.

I also have concerns about how it is potted. Does that container have any drainage holes? The potting soil looks of poor quality and the pot size a bit too small for proper root development.

Locate a 1G nursery pot and some good quality, bark-based potting soil and repot your tree. Then get it outside!! Depending on where you live, you may need to sink the pot into the garden soil or offer some other winter protection. But it cannot remain indoors or under heated conditions for the winter. It will not be able to enter its natural period of dormancy and that is not good. In spring you can plant it directly into the garden and watch its growth into a real tree.

Get it outside! Shade at first.
