winter protection

So far our winter has been a cold one. I have some A. palmatums that I am a little worried aobut as they are newly planted and not well established yet. I don't think that we have been to -10 yet but we always have plenty of wind. I have them planted in fairly protected areas except for an Orangeola out front. The Orangeola is surrounded by stakes wrapped with burlap and the enclosure loosley filled with leaves. Out back where looks are not really an issue (not that the burlap looks great) I took an easier path. I went to the local appliance dealer and got some drier boxes and put over the mables to protect them from the winds. I will have to make sure that I water them once or twice as there won't be snow melting around the base. By spring I am sure that the boxes will be pretty beat up but that's OK.
