there are very few absolutely pure white flowers..

grandma being plantaginea ... whose scent i tend to call gardenia like ...

most near white flowers are descendents of her... and do carry the scent in the dna ... to varying degrees ...

there are a couple pure white ... that have no scent ... but i dont recall their heritage.. they are very old ... white edger coming to mind ...

look very, very close at both the bud.. and the first hours the flower is open.. and you will usually find some trace of purple.. which bleaches out quickly ...

also.. plantaginea opens in the evening.. but other fragrants may or may not follow that heritage ....

My 'Diana Remembered' is flowering right now with pretty large pure white scented flowers. So beautiful!

One of the two white flowered ones that is not fragrant is H. clausa 'Alba', it's in bloom for me now. Sure is fertile though....
