I'm a huge fan of vinca major (not so much on the minor) as it is about the only thing I can plant around my various drift of trees and then just maintain its perimeter my mowing. So in your case, all you have to do is keep mowing it (very short)and it retreats to the boundary where no mowing is going on.

The whole bottom of my back yard is taken with vinca minor, so if you have a better method than digging it out like sod and then sprinkling casoron to kill the roots, I'm all ears(or eyes) for the solution!

I'm sorry, I really couldn't resist. ;^) Some ding-dong planted our whole front yard with vinca. When we bought the place we literally had to dig it all out. I'm not sure anything makes it go away. The only thing worse is Mexican Bamboo (which is growing up *through the tar* behind the garage and gallons of poison won't kill it. Soooo hey - at least it's not that right?!)
