Oregano is very hardy. Just this last week I cut all of mine back to the ground and I could see they beginnings of the new green growth. I have my plants in place for about 5 years and they always grow back bigger and better even after the extreme weather.

Lots of losses but there are always some pleasant surprises. One that comes to mind is Podocarpus matudae from Mexico. I didn't even think it was hardy at all but it still looks flawless... just a little plant in a pot.

What do its roots look like? That is the first place to look. Tops are much hardier than roots. More than once I've seen stock that got frozen in pots look fine until it was time for the roots to support top growth during the growing season, then turn out to have dead roots - making the whole thing dead.

Blue flowering abutilon suntense along the north side of a fence looks like it did before the cold winter hit. Evergreen and perky. Trachycarpus fortunei, my 2 windmill palms look good, too. Mahonia 'Arthur Menszies' with winter yellow flowers has minimal blossom browning.

I was amazed to find the head of a globe artichoke that had been left on the plant. The seeds in the head sprouted during the last month, while snow was covering it! I think the mother plant has succumbed but these seedlings are small, so I don't know if they will grow.
