I like this winter much better than last winter. Last winter the whole month of January was freezing and I lost plants. So far this winter my plants have done just fine.

This weather is fairly normal for the Pacific Northwest, so that is a good reason to take a vacation to some place warm and sunny, so when you come back your batteries will be recharged and winter will pass quicker. It worked for me.

I love this winter! No 11 degree days for weeks on end. Only got down to 24 degrees in my yard. No dead trees! Lots of rain, good for my swamp trees.

Too much wind, always high winds. Have had to stake everything.

Praying that we finally get warm daily sunshine but gentle steady rain every night. Need that water. And may this summer not be so blasted hot! Don't want to lose any more trees to the frying relentless sun. Let there be rain downpours in July and August for a change.

May Spring last until the middle of August :-)

I agree..... as bad as this winter has been (we've had accumulating snow 9 times now in Poulsbo) I still prefer it over the previous winter when we had a killer freeze in November. This year's January freeze was kind of annoying but didn't hurt most of my plants too much. I think it may be the end of my X Chiranthofremontia lenzii, though - and it might not be easy to find another one of those :-(

This is a GREAT winter! No ice storm!!!!! not too cold, it rained alot but that's the reason we can grow things besides cactus. Spring with the melting 2000 feet of snow might be a different story...

Ah, but it is traditional to complain about the rain this time of year...it tells me we are having a NORMAL year!
Does anyone else remember the childrens, book about "Susan Samantha Cottonwood, who when it would rain, would put her nose on the window pane and complain and complain and complain"?

This is interesting. We got like 8" of fluffy snow in southern Oregon where we have been now for 2 years. But it rains in the winter here more than snow. Feels like Portland honestly. And I was near Portland for 40 plus years.

Either way, I like rain more than snow - snow that hangs around that is. Snow makes work near impossible. I can't even rake up twigs after pruning. And snow packs into icy sheets. So this winter has not been one that I would call "enjoyable".

Although, I did do a lot of hiking west near the coast that was awesome this winter. Found and photographed this big redwood in the wet and rain.

I got saturated by rain on ferns and trees finding those trees, and enjoyed every minute of it.

As long as it's rainy, I can enjoy the winter. I'm planning to go camping that park again in a week or two, even if it rains.

I hate every winter. This one has had lots of snow and it takes a long time to melt in our yard. The sun can't get over the tree tops. Today I saw a hummingbird right outside the window, and I have some crocus coming up in the yard. So that put a little 'spring' in my step!

I do not like most winters here either. I have been here my entire 43 years...I read a couple days ago we have had THREE sunny days since November 15th. The sun does some amazing things for those of us who understand it and it has not been of much help this winter...ah, but it is supposed to be 55 and sunny both this saturday and sunday...Time for them slugs to start coming back out...

November through February for me are just kinda tuck away months and play with my girls mostly indoors...

I hate every winter too. If I could convince my husband I would have moved back to Phoenix a long time ago. The rain drives me nutz.

I enjoy our winters. I do most of my gardening during the winter. Just because the sky is cloudy doesn't mean it's raining.
When I was landscaping for a living people would ask me what I did in the winter. I landscaped! It's a lot easier landscaping in the winter than Spring or Summer. Easier on the plants too.

Give me a foggy, misty day and I'm in Heaven. Moving to Phoenix with global warming would be the last thing I would want to do. It's too hot there already....and getting hotter. Even the Saguaro cactus are dying because of the increasing temps. It's even too hot for Sedums!

I really haven't seen anything to complain about this winter. Pretty typical PNW winter. Some cold, some snow, some wind, lots of rain, plenty of snowpack in the mountains. Nothing unusual, except for the December flooding, but there has to be something every year. Last year it was a cyclone, and flooding in November that was more widespread than this year but less extreme. No extreme cold temps this year, no ice storms so far, no 60 days straight of rain ...

This winter is so much better than last year's. Last winter was the worst in the 25 years that I have lived out here. This winter has been very mild for me. I get outside as often as I can and work in the garden and go for walks. It really helps. I love this time of year. Those sunny dry days in Feb. and March when the temps get in the 50's. The crocus just glow and all the early spring bulbs look so beautiful. I talked to my Mom in Minnesota today. It was -13 degrees. I really can't complain about this winter. It's been a good one for me.

This weekend was marvelous! I used it to get dirt into my raised beds and am getting ready to start planting cool-weather crops next month. I used this winter to plan my garden and learn as much as I could before I actually hit the dirt.

As for last winter being worse, my brother thinks this year will be worse for starting warm plants early. Last year he bet on tomatoes in March and got a huge crop. He says with this weather he's not going to gamble this year. I tend to agree. It was 55 yesterday when we were moving dirt and this morning my beds had frost on them. Good thing I didn't plant yesterday (not that I could move my arms to do so, hehe).

We got a little snow here for a few days and aside from it being a pain in the butt commuting wise, I liked it. Makes everything look clean..which is what I think I dislike about winter the most..Soggy icky muddy..
