Schizophragma integrifolium

Several of these grow quite large eventually, one or two will not be hardy in the foothills or in a frost pocket. If you check them out you can decide if any seem to fit the bill.

When searching for more info on the above listed vines, I came across Brushwood Nursery, a vine-only web nursery. I checked on Dave's Garden which gave Brushwood an excellent rating. I did notice come clematis that they rate for 'shade'.

Two Clematis worth considering are, Barbara Jackman and Fair Rosamond, they both do well for me in shaded areas, Fair Rosamond is a very delicate colour but does have fragrance (just like violets) something you don't usually find in the larger flowering varieties.

I vote for the climbing Hydrangea. It is evergreen and has lovely flowers in deep shade.

Many Clematis will take partial shade but deep shade isn't going to cut it and most are deciduous.

I think the climbing hydrangeas may be the answer, but don't they get a bit big?? It looks as if they may not bloom for several years as well. Still, we hope to retire here so hopefully have 20+ years to go.
